Frosted Tree Tops

While I drove along the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway winding through Superior National Forest low clouds laden with small droplets of moisture frosted the tree tops along a ridge creating a natural gradient of forest greens, grays and winter white.

Location Details

The Gunflint Trail (Gunflint National Scenic Byway) is a 57 mile paved road that begins in the harbor town of Grand Marais, Minnesota, on Lake Superior’s western shoreline and winds its way inland through Superior National Forest’s rolling terrain. There are several unpaved roads intersecting with the Gunflint Trail leading to a number of resorts, campgrounds, hiking trails, lake access points and the famed Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness. The paved Gunflint Trail was originally a trail to access flint rock on Gunflint Lake.
